So im reviewing for the psat and theres a question that uses this symbol ¿ what does ¿ mean ? o.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perhaps its a typo? As far as I'm aware that is only used in the Spanish language at the beginning of questions What section was it in?

OpenStudy (liizzyliizz):

ill show u the question because ive never seen that before

OpenStudy (liizzyliizz):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok, its just a symbol they made up \[x?y => x^{2}+{y\over 2}\] so for example \[3?4 =3^{2}+{4\over 2}=9+2=11\] use this rule to find out the value of n in the problem

OpenStudy (liizzyliizz):

ooh ok i thought it meant something, because in all my years taking math ive never seen that grr those sneaky college board people.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea , they like stuff like that, the point is that you are able to follow the rule or figure it out based on algebra.

OpenStudy (liizzyliizz):

yeah hopefully calculus has not ruined my basic algebra *sigh* lol
