what pH values appear to DENATURE the enzymes? & explain.
It depends on the enzyme, certain enzymes function better in different pH levels. For example, pepsin (found in the stomach) functions best in an acidic environment; which the stomach provides. http://www.worthington-biochem.com/introbiochem/effectsph.html
Denature = distruption of the structure of the protein (secondary, tertiary, and quatary). The non-convalent bonds such as hydrogen bonding, van der waals, hydrophobic effect, and ionic bonding.
It could be high pH or low pH...... can distrupt peptide interactions.....
So for example if the pH vaule was at 7 will the enzymes be denatured?
SLO, did you even bother to open that link I posted up there? If you did you could literally scroll down just a LITTLE bit down and you would find the answer to your question. Here it is again: http://www.worthington-biochem.com/introbiochem/effectsph.html
thanks!
