Explain how the multiplication property for inequalities differs from that of equations.

OpenStudy (alfie):

In an equation, you can multiply both members for both a positive or a negative number without changing stuff. While in inequalities, you can do that without changing the inequality only with positive numbers. Not with negative ones.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you multiply by a negative number u hv to reverse/flip the inequality eg -3 < -2 which it true for negative integers However if you multiply both sides by -2 and keep sign as it is you get 6 < 4 which is wrong, so you have to flip/reverse the sign 6> 4 is right now

same for division..... in an inequality if you divide both sides by a negative number then also you have to reverse the inequality sign
