Can any asset value become zero or negative at any time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it can become 0 but not negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no zero is not a negative number but -1 and so on you can't

just to confuse you some more - you can have accounts on the asset side of the B/S that are negative - these are just contra accounts i.e. they net against another item. THis is a presentation choice - nothing more. e.g. PPE will be a positive asset, sometimes you may find the accumulated depreciation line underneath (always negative) - both netted together to give a net PPE figure.

yes it can be negative but provision has to be made for that as per as29

KeeNic: If you are talking in the terms of accounting you are right, but in finance valuation, an asset value could be negative, for example a company that is losing money. Obviously no one will pay you to take the company, but what it means is that the NPV of the FCF of the company is negative, so the company doesnt worth anything.
