OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats up everyone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Random chatting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help with math please 5pāˆ’ 14=8p+ 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeahhhhhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5pāˆ’ 14=8p+ 4 -5p -5p -14 = 3p + 4 -4 -4 -18 = 3p /3 /3 p = -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help this another problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pāˆ’ 4=āˆ’9+p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry to bother you=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is no solution for that problem,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and dont worry about thats why im here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no solution to that problem. it's like sayin 6=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no solution? what u mean? is this goin to be a undefined answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because p cancels out, so therefore nothing can equal p making it no solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i write that down though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

p - 4 = -9 + p Dude you have to get the p's all in one side, so subtract p from each side to remove it from the right. p - 4 - p = -9 + p - p -4 = -9 All the p's are gone and you're left with a this false statement. Thats why there is no solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just write "since p cancels out, therefore their is no solution."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah what he said.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh gotchya i get it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for this -8=-(x+4) is really like this 8=-x+4 right? & I must subtract 4 from both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to distribute the negative: -8=--x-4 you would add 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to add 4 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes because you are distributing the negative to both x and 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so then? now i add 4 to both sides now/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is x=-12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on -12 isnt right, my bad i meant the add four to both side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok show me what you get after you add 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8=-x-4 +4 +4 -4 = -x /-1 /-1 x=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did add for to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh oops=/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats how it should look like, its ok you had the idea so you were on the right track

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kay thanks im gettin it lil by lil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got stuck on this problem.... 12=-4(-6x-3) is this the next step? 12=24x-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than i add 3 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome, ok remember distribute -4 to both -6x and -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay 24x-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12=-4(-6x-3) 12 = 24x + 12 (distribute -4 to both -6x and -3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh oops i forgot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24=24x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No you have to subtract 12 from each side 12 = 24x + 12 -12 -12 0 = 24x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh=/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what do you do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-(7-4x)=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well you have to distribute the negative to both terms in the parentheses.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7-4x=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than add 7 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no -4x is a positive since 2 negatives make a positive. -7+4x=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -4x=16 /4 /4 x=4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is correct :) , but your -4x is suppose to be positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i changed my mistake thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So many replies to this thread!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-18-6k=6(1+3k) -18-6k=6+18k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

& thank what after

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yes you have distributed it correctly, now you have to combine like terms, do you know how to do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorta not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let us show you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-18-6k=6+18k you have to get the numbers WITHOUT the variables onto one side of the equation and the variables on the opposite side of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG a lengthy conversation i had ever seen!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahah i have a test today i need to get this down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ikr lol but it's cool, Im helping someone out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thank youu tons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so did you understand what I put before? and no problem i like helping

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i gotta go get rdy for school and head to school ill get back on in a bit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kay be right back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great guys!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thanks? :) @DHASHNI

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any time!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

back:) i took my test ugh =/ i did ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to finish this worksheet it's due today

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok how was the test?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was ok..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help solving this problem please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18-6k=6(1+3k)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the next step right? -18 -16k=6+18k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yes that is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat do i do nxt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the -16 on the left shouldnt change, it should still be -6 still

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 18-6k=6+18k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but now you put the numbers without variables on one side and the ones with variables on the opposite side of the constants (numbers without variables).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18+6=6k+18k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to turn this wrksheet it be4 1:00=/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well 18-6k=6+18k you have to make all the variables of k go to one side, you can either add -6k to 18k on the right side, or you can subtract 18k from -6k on the left side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok? i did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok look at the equation 18-6k=6+18k you have to make all the variables of k go to one side, you can either add -6k to 18k on the right side, or you can subtract 18k from -6k on the left side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k=2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, show me your work, so i can see what you did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ughh:( i give up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im getting frustrated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't give up, just show me your work and I will show you what you did wrong, we all have to learn from our mistakes :)
