Should the right to refuse medical treatment be made illegal?
in my opinion big NO. to simplify my explanation let us talk about a 90+ person with cancer which is curable by a big operation, that may be of unacceptable morbidity in his opinion. btw he may not die from this tumor - he's over 90, man he could die with the tumor not because of it. that is an easy example - but for a generalizing question that should do. there are ways to enforce under specific circumstances emergency life saving medical treatment.
It depends on your opinion. Many people refuse medcal treatment because of their religion. The law should not interfere with religion in any way. It's also a persons personal decision whether or not they want to live or die and in this case I feel like it's different than suicide. Doctors should not be given complete control in this situation, I feel that it's up to the patient and their family.
just as people have the right to adequate and appropriate healthcare, they also have the right to refuse it (with a few exceptions). it's a legal and ethical consensus. it should never be made illegal.
Thanks for all your answers! They've been useful for the debate I shall be doing for this topic.
i say no as i live in a third wold country , many people do not understand medical terms or rx so i think that in our case thye informed decision sholld be made for them in orderd to save their lives , many people refuse medical rx because they do not have enough information .
It looks like we all agree so far that in this case, personal freedoms of choice should apply. Why should we ever mandate by government fiat, that someone must have a given medical procedure?
