If you are close to a lake, is it warmer or cooler?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its always cooler the closer you get to the lake

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

warmer at night

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Water has a high specific heat. Which means that it takes more time and energy to heat and cool.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

cooler during day

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Wrong, wrong. I live next to Lake Michigan. In winter, it's warmer; in summer it's cooler. It's not necessarily warmer or cooler at night than it is during the day.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I guess cooler is right

OpenStudy (jamesj):

I'm looking at it out the window right now and it's telling me I'm right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well... it get's humid on the day... so it will feel warm..

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

windows are a good source of knowledge

I believe that large bodies of water will tend to moderate the temperature on the adjacent land compared to area not adjacent to the water. So ala rob_t, when the ambient temperature drops, the land adjacent to the water remains warmer; when the ambient temperature rises, the land adjacent to the water remains cooler.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Mandolino is exactly right, even if I was being flippant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah mandolino has it right.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
