OpenStudy (pottersheep):

Does the graph of y = √x look different from the graph of x = y^2 ? Does the graph of y = √x look different from the graph of x = y^2 ? @Mathematics

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Have you graphed them side-by-side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, \[y= \sqrt{x}\] gives only positive values of the square root, but \[x=y ^{2}\] is rearranged to give \[y=\pm \sqrt{x}\] which give both positive and negative values

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ys can be negative in x=y^2 whereas they cannot in the other equation|dw:1319408124775:dw|
