Was Andrew Jackson a "Champion of the people" or "King Andrew"?
Well... it really is open to debate. On one hand, Andrew Jackson was definitely regarded as one of the first populist presidents of America. Unlike the previous presidents who preceded him, Jackson had no illustrious past to him, was not a Founding Father, and didn't come from the rich states of the East (e.g. Virginia and Massachusetts), but rather the backwoods of Tennessee... hence some would call him a champion of the people. However, some would say that he was King Andrew. He was very authoritative with his rule over American politics, vetoing much legislation put forth through Congress, such as refusing to resign the American national bank.
I am leaning more towards him being champion of the people after reading some of my AP book. Is there any events or actions that support this?
