To be honest, I don't quite agree with either of the choices for Fugitive Slave Act... Fugitive Slave Act angered Northerners because it forced them to act as slave hunters for slave holders in the South. Also judges were given more money to send a free black (who hadn't been a slave in the past) back to slavery in the south, rather than to acquit him/her. Bleeding Kansas: Competition between farmers trying to settle the land. These farmers were either slavery supporters from the south or abolitionists from primarily New England. Why did SC secede? Well... they've historically (at least before Civil War) been very opposed to federal government actions (tried to secede earlier under Jackson). I think by 1860 they were just largely mad at all the North had done to villify slavery. As well... the election of Abraham Lincoln, who did not win any Southern states in the election, made South Carolinians and other Southerners afraid Lincoln may get rid of slavery. Hope this helps!
