can anyone please explain "Slope" i don't get it !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rise over run is the easiest way to think about slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your y axis is the rise, and the x axis is the run.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you have a negative slope, that means that EITHER the numerator OR the denominator is negative, but not both.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

slope is used to describe how steep/shallow a line is and it also describe how fast a variable changes over time

OpenStudy (precal):

Think about going skiing. Going down is a negative slope, Going up is positive slope, horizotal line is a zero slope and a vertical line is undefined (impossible to ski on) Read graph of lines left to right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If in point-slope form y=mx+b, the two parameters (point and slope) such that b= Y intercept and m= "slope". I always think of the point as the "starting point" on the graph, which always falls on the y axis. From the starting point I interpret the slope as rise over run, in that, I always think of m as a fraction.

OpenStudy (precal):

One way to remember it is y=mx+b b is the point where you begin the graph (aka y-intercept) m is how you move (aka slope or rise over run)
