I've just started on Transformations of Graphs. The graph y=xsquared-2 is a translation of the graph y=x squared and this translation is described as moving through 2 units in the negative y direction, which I understand, (hence the -2). However, the book also says that this translation is -2 units in the positive y direction. Can anyone explain the use of the word 'positive' here? Thanks for your help.
