4x^2+16x+14=0 solve using quadratic equation

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

\[4x ^{2}+16x+14=0\]you can first simplify by dividing everything by2:\[2x ^{2}+8x+7=0\]quadratic equations have the general form:\[ax ^{2}+bx+c=0\]with solution:\[x=(-b\pm\sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac})/2a\]using this we have:\[a=2, b=8, c=7\]\[x=(-8\pm\sqrt{64-56})/4=(-8\pm\sqrt{8})/4=(-8\pm\sqrt{4*2})/4=(-8\pm2\sqrt{2})/4\]\[x=-2\pm0.5\sqrt{2}\]
