5x-3y=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you want us to do with this? solve it for y? y = (5/3)x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve it so that y is a function of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay then that is your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you want to know how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. first you must get the 'y' term on one side by itself. the easiest way to do that is to move the 'x' term to the other side. to do that we subtract the x term from both sides. 5x-3y = 9 becomes -3y = -5x + 9 now we must get 'y' by itself. To do that, you divide both sides by (-3) remember that you have to divide BOTH terms by (-3) so you end up with this: y = (-5/-3)*x + 9/3 the second term reduces to 3, and the negative signs cancel out. y = (5/3)*x + 3
