OpenStudy (aravindg):

A horizontal force F is applied normally to an upper edge of a rectangular box of length l and height h to move it. What should be the coefficient of friction µ between the box and the floor so that the box moves without overturning?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

ishu?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Say you apply the force directly in the center horizontally you wouldnt have to worry about rotating the box. If you apply the force in the top then you would probably turn or "rotate" the box before it even moves horizontally. Things to know would be the pivot point when it rotates

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the floor is friction less, the box will move without overturning.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

realy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe? not sure.. if you'll imagine floor, with friction, the box will overturn. but if the floor is frictionless, no force is acting on the opposite direction, box will move freely.
