Start by rearranging the equation to get x on its own. This can be done by adding 3/5 to both sides: \[x-3/5+3/5 = 1/6 +3/5\]\[x=1/6+3/5\] now find a common denominator for the two fractions on the right hand side. To do this, multiply both fractions by 1 creatively... \[x=1/6*5/5+3/5*6/6\]\[x=5/30+18/30\]\[x=\frac{5+18}{30}\]\[x=23/30\] Fortunately for us, this is a fully reduced fraction since 23 is a prime number.
