what is the main differences of transcrition between prokaryotes and eukaryotes @MIT OCW Biology

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Some overall differences are that in eukaryotes, transcription and translation take place is separate cellular compartments while in prokaryotes, RNA is usually translated while it is being transcribed. There are others though, so I'm not sure which is the most significant. http://www.chem.uwec.edu/Webpapers2006/sites/demlba/folder/ProvsEuk.html

thats cool man you no i tend to confuse them. i think da major difference is the one you have said that in eukaryotes it takes place in separate compartments.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Transcription is turning DNA into RNA. And translation is turning the RNA into protein. Transcription and translation occur in seperate compartments b/c prokaryotes don't have a distinct nucleus. Other differences in the protein synthesis process are that Eukary DNA has to be modified (introns cut out, 5' GTP Hat, Poly-A tail); don't have to do that in Pro.'s. Hope this helps.
