to anyone who has read the odyssey: i'm having trouble answering this question. "is odysseus's punishment of the suitors and the disloyal women justified? what would the greeks think? do you think this vengeance is excessive? consider the suitor who begged for mercy. explain." @Literature

I'll try helping you out by giving you my opinion. You decide whether or not you'd like to take it. I believe the greeks would definitely believe Odysseus' punishment of the suitors was justified mainly because they were degrading and defiling something the greek gods considered extremely important, hospitality. I personally believe the vengeance was excessive, but had a purpose - to show Odysseus' position of power at that moment, and besides they were planning to murder his son. The suitor who begged for mercy is the main example of Odysseus' position of power at that moment and his ability to deny mercy.
