The pH measures the acidity or alkalinity ("basicness") of a solution. A pH of 7 is neutral, meaning that the solution in question has no acid/base properties. A pH of below 7 is considered to be acidic, and the lower the pH value, the more acidic the solution is considered to be. For instance, stomach acid is VERY acidic because it has a pH of 1 or 2. A solution with a pH closer to 7. In short, the pH scale ranges from 0 (very, very acidic) to neutral (pH of 7) to 14 (very, very basic). For a more visual description of the pH scale. Therefore, by these definitions, the cola that she had for lunch was pretty acidic. She takes the milk of magnesia, which has a pH value of 10.5 (making it basic/alkaline), to neutralize the acidic cola that she had for lunch. The pH of water is usually considered to be 7, but this varies as the quality of water is not uniform. Usually the pH of water falls somewhere between 6.5 and 8.5, but for the purposes of this question, the pH of water is 7. The pH of blood is 7.46. The patient can avoid acidic foods and drinks to avoid these symptoms in the future. She can include alkaline foods such as broccoli, celery, apples, grapes, and raspberries.
A 55-year-old woman visits a popular eatery for lunch. She orders a cheese and bacon pizza with extra cheese and has about 3 large glasses of cola (ph value 3). On the way back home, she experiences heartburn and abdominal pain, and has difficulty breathing. She drinks a lot of water and has to consume milk of magnesia (pH value 10.5) before she feels comfortable again. Classify the liquids that she has consumed as acidic or alkaline. State the pH values of water and blood. State what the patient can include and avoid in her diet on a regular basis to avoid these symptoms in the future.
3 large glasses of cola as it is acidic u said above and in our stomach there is already present acid which get increased as compare to basicity.. and she feels a pain .. in common term we say acidity problem. sshe use cola in a limit
Hi Donnice, what you have written for the first two questions is correct :) I think on the last question (State what the patient can include and avoid in her diet on a regular basis to avoid these symptoms in the future.) you will probably need to include some other examples of acidic foods. Have a look here for some acidic foods: http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm
