Why is \[e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0\]so special? it just means that \[\cos(\pi) = -1\] I don't get it :(

OpenStudy (jamesj):

I think one of the reasons this equation has its appeal is it combines in a simple way five important numbers: 0, 1, e, pi and i. The fact that two transcendental numbers could be sit in such relation to two very elementary numbers is unusual. Personally though, I think the fascination with this equation is a bit juvenile should end at high school. ;-)
