How do i graph this quadratic function? please include steps if you can! y = 2(x − 4)^2+ 1 when i try to plug in a random number, -2, i end up getting some huge number 73! I don't know if my math is wrong or my way of doing this is wrong

OpenStudy (agreene):

73 is correct for f(-2). You need to realize this is an upward opening parabola that is shifted right... here's the graph: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=plot+y+%3D+2%28x+%E2%88%92+4%29%5E2%2B+1

oh ok, but the graph on my homework is only up to 10. Do you know a shortcut i can do to avoid getting big numbers?

OpenStudy (agreene):

change your graph to where each line is say... 2 or 5 ish units not 1. that way your 10 by 10 graph becomes 20 by 20 or 50 by 50.

OpenStudy (agreene):

I guess, you dont need to change the x value, you can keep it as 1 unit per making it 10.

thanks
