sqrt3x+24=x+2
\[\sqrt{3x+24 } =x+2\]
i square both sides correct?
3x+24=(x+2)^2
3x+24=(x+2)^2 3x + 24 = x^2 + 4x + 4
ok then i use foil. x^2+2x+2x+4 3x+24=x^2+4x+4
and then? :P
You got it tena, now combine your like terms
subtract 24 from both sides... 3x=x^2+4x-20
sub 3x...0=x^2+x-20
then i factor that and then a bunch of other stuff lol i dont feel like typing lol :)
=P
then i got 4 as the answer.
You should have 2 answers
hmm i put in 4 and it was correct.
0=x^2+x-20 0 = (x+5)(x-4) so x = -5 and x = 4
i wonder why it said it was correct for just one answer..hmm idk but heck as long as it counted it right lol
basically in general terms, it's a polynomial function. there's more to elaborate on that but, yeah so polynomial functions usually have more than ONE x value that can make the equation true.
