Can anyone find the etymology of the word pride for me, I need help...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure O.E. pryto, from prud. First applied to groups of lions late 15c., but not commonly so used until c.1930. The verb in the reflexive sense "congratulate (oneself)" is recorded from late 13c. From Middle English, from Old English prȳde, pryte (“pride”) (compare Old Norse prýði (“bravery, pomp”)), derivative of Old English prūd (“proud”). Synonyms (lamprey species): prid, sandpiper
