Identify and discuss the differences between the terms ‘theories,’ ‘laws,’ and ‘hypotheses.’ Describe ‘controlled conditions.’

OpenStudy (espex):

A hypothesis is an educated guess, a theory is a summary of a hypothesis that is supported by repeated tests, and a law generalizes the observations gleaned from the testing done. Basically you hypothesize what you think will happen in a given instance based on your familiarity with that instance, then you theorize what you are seeing happen based on a number of tests attempting to explain or prove your hypothesis, and finally you make a law that generally describes what is happening.

Thank you!

How would you describe "controlled conditions"?

OpenStudy (espex):

Controlled conditions are ones that you know all the variables. If you are doing a study and are giving one group sugar pills (your control), you know what the reactions will be, as opposed to the the group you are giving a test medication.

Awesome! Thank you so much

OpenStudy (espex):

My pleasure.
