x^2-3x-2=0 use quadratic formula, by the way, can these be factored instead? im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This one cant be factored without the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

No, it can't be factored with integers because there are not pair of integers such that they multiply to (-2) and add to (-3).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have a quadratic equation on the form ax^2 + bx + c where the quadratic formula is \[\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\] Just plug in a, b, and c and simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, ok thanks Math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3+-sqrt17 over 2? is this right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes!! Nicely done!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really? yay :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):
