is cos= sin/sin? if not, what is it?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

no. cosine = side adjacent/hypotenuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well can someone explain this pls Prove that this is true? 1 + csc(x)/sec (x) = cos(x)+cot(x (1 + csc) / sec = (1 + 1/sin) / (1/cos) = (sin/sin + 1/sin) / (1/cos) = [(sin + 1)/sin] / 1/cos = cos(sin+1)/sin cos + cot = cos + cos/sin = cos(sin)/sin + cos/sin = [cos(sin) + cos]/sin = cos(sin+1)/sin cos(sin+1)/sin = cos(sin+1)/sin

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

1 + csc x / sec x = 1 + 1/sinx / 1/cos x = 1 + cot x - the first identity is not true

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

oh its (1 + csc x ) / sec x right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

(1 + csc x ) / sec x = 1 + 1/sin x) / 1/cos x =[(sinx + 1) / sin x ] * cos x =cot x ( sin x + 1) = cos x + cot x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow thanks...could you help me with another one pls. sin^2 ( x) tan^2 ( x)sin^2 (x )= tan^2 (x )

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

are you sure about this one? it doesnt make sense as it stands

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sin ^{2}x +\tan ^{2}x \sin ^{2}x=\tan ^{2}x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that look better
