how do i know which one is commutative, associative, identity inverse or distributive property? 1.) 8+(9-7)=(8+9)-7 2.) (8/5)(5/8)=1 3.) 11(2x+y)=22x+11y

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Commutative Property deals with order. If the order of the numbers has not changed, it is not commutative. So #1 could not be commutative because on the left you have 8 9 -7 and on the right you have 8 9 -7 all in the same order.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The Associative Property, on the other hand, deals with pairing. In # 1, on the left the 9 and -7 are grouped together by the parenthesis. On the right the 8 and 9 are grouped together. So the pairing has been changed and it is the Associative Property that allows that.

*it

In #2, you multiply 2 numbers and get 1. One is the identity element for multiplication because when you multiply something by 1, it keeps the same identity. So #2 is multiplicative inverse property.

1 is retrice 2.inv. 3.dist
