Hello! I have a string of numbers & letters that looks like nonsense. But I'm sure if I break it down, I will find that there are pieces that make sense. Where do I start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you want to break each string into shorter strings? like only 5 characters? do you want to get code? do you want to write code yourself? what language you using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the string cyphered? If so, you might want to check for frequency, if you are working it by hand. Else, try some regular, constant break down of the string, like each 4, 5, 6 characters. It's kinda hard to assume something without knowing if it will make sense in English, code, computer stuff, or something else :-).

yeah, also check if the string is encrypted as what bmp is suggesting.

It was part of a game I'm playing. I was trying to decrypt a clue, my only idea was to break it up because I tried a bunch of decryption methods unsuccessfully. bmp said: "It's kinda hard to assume something without knowing if it will make sense in English, code, computer stuff, or something else." Totally true, I was grasping at straws!!! Turns out it was in fact English encoded with base 64, so breaking it up wouldn't have helped. And it turns out the clue was useless anyway LOL.

ROT64 encryption? A ROT26 works better :-) haha
