Anyone willing to spend some time helping me with my comparative essay? :'( I'm in desperate need of help.... HELP!! D;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will help you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you need help with on it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hope you're still online... and it's basically my main points of my essay :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay yes im online still and okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm writing about two books: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and my project is to write a comparative essay about these two books.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay and do you know how to write a comparison essay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of, kind of not. It's just that I've decided to talk about their similarities..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you MUST mention differences too thats the point of comparison essay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really? ohh.. noo.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just mention a few dont make a grocery list

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is mainly about similarities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I do that? It's because my purpose of my essay to the readers is to argue that both of the books' protgonists live in poor backgrounds but yet manage to overcome their struggles and become successful thus give hope for the rest of us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have my thesis: "Jeannette Walls’ and Frances Nolan’s stories of upward social mobility, give hope to all those who are less fortunate by demonstrating the ability to overcome dire situations."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I remember my teacher said I have to put a rationale into my thesis..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is a good thesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you were the one marking my paper, what would you look for in my paper with my thesis? Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with my main points.. ahh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would look for some high strong points IE them showing faith to others and focus on likenesses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh... 'cause like i have some main points but i don't know if they make sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.eslbee.com/compcont.htm this should help you out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are they

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These are basically my main points sentences: Jeannette’s lack of proper education during her early-life and Frances’ formal education in her early-life earn them the dedication required to excel among their peers. The mentorship and support that Jeannette and Frances receive from their key family members and other people shape their values, and increase their ability of reaching their dreams. Finally, the protagonists’ self-determination shown through their optimism and resilience increases their likelihood of reaching their goals, despite of living in poverty.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Finally, the protagonists’ self-determination shown through their optimism and resilience increases their likelihood of reaching their goals, despite of living in poverty i would write: Finally, the protagonists’ self-determination shown through their optimism and their resilience increases their likelihood of reaching their goals, despite of living in poverty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but other than that looks good to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh.. I'm kind of iffy about my first main point-- education.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you make 3 facts about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

about education?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sure you could but before you make ur final decision look at that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the education of them both can you find 3 supporting facts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's just that both of these protagonists live in poverty except how they have their education is different. Jeannette Walls in The Glass Castle is home schooled during her early-life, her parents teach her the concepts of geology, science, phyiscs, math... but they are always moving from one place to another and so whenever the parents enroll them toa school, they have to move again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes if you can make it into 3-5 sentences its a perfect one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But instead of letting herself become like her parents who don't achieve their dreams and goals, she works hard to get through to it and realized that they needed to work towards a brighter future. ahhh, I'm not making any sense D;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you are it is perfect sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noo, because how can I make a point about it to my thesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let m,e show you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, I'm sorry for bothering you D;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

she works hard to achieve her dreams and goals , although she lives in poverty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then go into detail about her parents not achieving their dreams etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you are NOT bothering me i am happy to help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh.. I'm kind of getting it. So for my first point education, how can talk about it? eek.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like I'm having trouble connecting my main points with my thesis because for education, Jeannette Walls' parents homeschooled Jeannette and her siblings and they always moved from one place to another to hopefully make their parents' dreams come true (dad wanted to find gold and mom wanted to be an artist) so they keep moving to different places to find opportunities and to get away from the trouble they havea cused in the previous town they lived at. So whenever the parents enroll Jeannette in a school, to get proper education they remove her again because they have to move again,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But instead of letting herself become like her parents who keep moving to find better opportunities, she makes a plan, sticks with it and is straightforward about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay you say this Jeannette’s lack of proper education during her early-life due to her parents homeschooling her and her siblings caused her earn them the dedication required to excel among their peers. So whenever the parents enroll Jeannette in a school, to get proper education they remove her again because they have to move again. ok ay now give me more detail about the other protagonist and go from there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for Frances Nolan her parents have given up their dreams a loong time ago to focus on their children's well-being and dreams. They already understood that education is the key for her success and the key to separate her from becoming like the other children living in poverty and living the same lives her parents are living.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there you go and thats you facts about the thesis part on education :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh... okay!! thank you!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anytime :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you did the work i just guided you along
