I have a test tomorrow on Photosynthesis, and Cellular respiration, can some one please explain each of them, thank you. - Joe.

OpenStudy (preetha):

Well, Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants convert carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates: glucose. Energy is trapped in this process. Respiration is the process by which a molecule of glucose is broken down into carbon dioxide and water, releasing energy in the form of ATP molecules. So in a sense these are complementary processes. What grade are you at? This will make a difference to the complexity of the answer.

Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast, and respiration occurs in the mitochondria. Photosynthesis is the process where green plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food and oxygen. Respiration is the process where cells use this food to release stored energy.
