What are hydrophilic and hydrophobic interactions? How to identify hydrophilic & hydrophobic bonds (parts) of a molecule ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"hydrophobic" means "water fearing" and "hydrophilic" means "water loving". So, hydrophobic interactions are those between water nd water hating molecules and same for hydrophilic. In a molecule, the nonpolar part is the hydrophobic part and the polar part is the hydrophilic part. When mixed in water, The nonpolar parts of the molecules come together nd the polar parts interact with water. This way, the hydrophobic part in a molecule is left unexposed to water. In the pic, a few molecules are shown in water. The straight chains are hydrophobic and the circles are hydrophilic. See how the carbon chains come together (trying to get away from water molecules).
