how do you construct the orthocenter of an obtuse triangle?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ortho means 90 degrees; im assuming that is the 90s that go from the midpts of the sides?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

altitudes; not midpts .. soo colose

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1322950762219:dw| maybe? its been awhile

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

It's the point where the three altitudes of a triangle intersect.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im right, yay!!

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

so for an obtuse triangle, it will lie outside the triangle (I believe)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

googles all knowing image search likes me lol

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

image search?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

Oh - I see :-)

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

there is a little applet on this page that will let you see how the orthocentre changes as you change the shape of the triangle: http://www.mathopenref.com/triangleorthocenter.html

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i spose you only really need to orthos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys. i figured it out
