question about writing tags, such as. "He said no," she smiled, "he wants out." Confused about when to capitalize the "he wants out and the comma before it. thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the he wants out in the same sentence as He said no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

It looks, to me, like two separate sentences. If I were to say it, I would say, "He said no. He wants out." So, it would be written like this: "He said no," she smiled, "He wants out." I hope this helps.

Thank you. So He is in caps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is where I mess up. I either put a comma in wrong place, between the quotation tags or err in the cap or not to capitalize the one who is speaking. For instance, a period is sometimes used and I mess up there too. Thanks again.

You're welcome. Just for your information, it can also be written like this... "He said no." She smiled. "He wants out." Just make sure you don't mix up the commas and periods. Good luck!
