can somebody help me? I copied a value from one cell to another but when I delete the source cell, the cell containing the copied value got deleted also. I want to retain the value of the copied cell even after deleting the source cell. Please help me.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. Is this in Microsoft Excel? A database application? What?

My guess is that your "copy" actually just made a reference to the original cell, it didn't truly copy the value.

when we begin copying and pasting formulas or text that knowing the difference between Relative and Absolute cell references becomes very important. A Relative reference is positional, so if you copy or paste a formula to a new cell (say one cell down), the references move (also once cell down) with it. An Absolute cell reference means that in a move or a copy, the reference to the cell stays put. It is 'absolutely' this cell. that is what you say of copying the content Using $, we have indicated that references to source and destination are Absolute. Now, when cutting and pasting the formula one cell to the right:.. your values will be copied
