(4x^2-4)(x^6-4) use foil method is the answer 4x^8-16x^2-4x^6+16?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

"foil" is just multiplication: 15 3 --- 45 8+7: 15 1+2: 3 ---------- 16+14 8+7 -------- 8+23+14 = 45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about the x^2 and stuff? i dont use those?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4x^2 -4 x^6 -4 -------------- -16x^2+16 4x^8-4x^6 -------------------- 4x^8-4x^6-16x^2+16

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you use it, but its the same principles

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you know how to multiply 2 numbers together; you know how to "foil" just a s well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know how to foil but how did you get the -4x^6 to come first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have the -16x^2 first

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i simply wrote it there first. It doesnt matter what order you add things up in. but by convention; you arrange the terms in descending degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aahh yes i forgot about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that would be my answer?
