When dealing with microscopes, what is field of view determination?

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

Its the Angular Dependence of the Effective area

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Thank you, but could you please explain more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's basically the diameter of the area that you can see through the scope. If you know the diameter of the individual cells, you can get this by counting the number of cells that go across the circle (spanning the diameter). Then multiply the number of cells by the diameter of the (individual) cells. OR, if you are given the diameter of the field of view, you can divide that by the number of cells that span the diameter, which would give you the diameter of each individual cell. But the FoV is just the diameter of what you can see through the scope.
