can someone please help me on my algebra hw???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

throw the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, its solving special systems. {y=2x-3 {y-2x=-3 the 2 brackets are really only one big on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what you will have to do to solve this problem is solve one of the equations for x or y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see if you can do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im trying to but i cant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok no problem. Lets take the first equation y = 2x + 3. this is great because y is already in terms of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now do you know how to subsitute y = 2x + 3 into the second equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to get 2x and substitute it for the y in the second equation???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+3 i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm not sure what you mean there. Lets back up a little bit. What we want to do here is try to make an equation with just x or just y. We only want one varible because two varibles are difficult to work with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok yes you are right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh its 2x-3 not plus 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes sorry i wrote 2x + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its, 2x-3-2x=-3??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes abosoutally! remember that y and 2x -3 are the same exact number. Sure they look different but they are completally the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now solve for x :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after i combine the like terms is it, 4x-3=-3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmm im sorry i didnt do the problem. Are you sure you copied it down right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

notice this 2x - 3 -2x = -3 2x - 2x - 3 = -3 0-3 = -3 you cancel your x's :D Your going to have to try solving for y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but whats x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha ok ok im sorry i just was leading your along and i never looked at the problem completally. These two equations are the same. Do you see that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve the second equation in terms of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but i need the x in order to figure out y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these two are the same :D y = 2x -3 y - 2x = -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You will not find a solution because you really only have one eqaution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its a solution!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or no solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes well the solution is no solution :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
