OpenStudy (cathyangs):

How do you get rid of "antivirus protection needed" notifications on a Windows 07 system? I've been using this computer for a while...last time this happened my dad didn't scan for viruses...he did something that got rid of the notifications. Does anyone have an idea?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Well, I'm not a Windows user so I'm a little bit rusty. I don't know what questions to ask to determine whether or not that's actually the Windows Health Console or you've been hit by a trojan. What I mean is that there are programs out there that impersonate anti-virus software. These fake anti-virus programs are in fact viruses. I wish I was joking. You may want to have someone professional look at your computer and help you out. There's only so much I can do from a written description of the problem. :-\

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

ah...ok. well, thank you. would this help? I'm currently on the superuser account of this computer, but the Guest account(the one I normally use for safety) is the only one with the antivirus notification popping up, and if I open firefox, google chrome, or internet explorer, this notification pops up, and the browser has the Window's 2012 antivirus purchasing website on it, but won't let me open new tabs or change the URL, and there's no search bar. There's another account, (don't know what type it is) with a password, which doesn't have the virus popup, but won't connect to the internet. The superuser account is the only one with working internet. Is this two seperat problems, one with the other account's internet, and one with the guest account...or what? Please help me if you can! :D

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

This sounds like a virus. I would advise you to log into the super user account and create a new regular user. Copy any files that you may need (word documents, whatever) from the old account to the new one, and delete the old regular account. That will be faster than trying to remove the virus by hand. Also, props for not logging in with the super user account. That's really, really smart.

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

thanks... *sighs* I'm going to be more careful about internet from now on. On a side note...do you, or anyone else, sometimes get lag/error message/script warming when trying to open Openstudy?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Well I'm glad you asked because I'm actually a member of the OpenStudy team! With regard to script warnings, we are aware of some errors in Internet Explorer. Those should be fixed in the next release sometime over the next few days. With regard to lag, yes - because of the amount of realtime stuff we're doing performance can be a problem. Internet Explorer is by far the worst of any of the major browsers. Chrome, to my knowledge, is the best. But even still we're working on some more things to keep things from slowing down too badly. The next release should help along those lines too.

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

ah....Thank you! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I would reccomend you to use a good antivirus like the 1 I m currently using .It can be the difference between the life and death of your computer. With so many computer viruses in existence, protecting your computer's security should be one of your top priorities. Aside from just stopping viruses, most anti-virus programs have other features, such as firewalls, that will ensure the well-rounded safety and security. A computer left open for viruses and hackers will often start to show premature signs of wear and a significant slow down will be noticeable, making normal computing tasks take much longer and causing much more hassle. Good Luck !
