If BG = 90 and AF = 35, find the length of DE
Diagram Please
i just posted it. refresh if you can't see it
we got crossing chords ab = cd if i remember it right
A)56.56 B)57.01 C)28.28 D)165.84
there is no CD on the diagram
of course there isnt ...
crossing chords have the property that the ends multiply out the same
BG passing through Centre ?
is that what C stands for? the center?

i'm confused.
Sorry. :/
this is why the study part helps, as opposed to the pick an answer part :/
do you recognize the crossing chords from your material?
I know that, I want help. I don't want anyone to give me the straight answer.
he means that DF x FE = GF x BF
And I have been really behind and my instructor told me to just go ahead with the assignments even though I missed the lessons. (Which soudned ridiculous, to me.)
So, no, I don't recognize the crossing chords thing.
it would help if you did, its rather elemental to the question :)
LOL !! Can't you see in the diagram ?? Do you know what is chord ?
@amistre64 Most likely. I'll go look now. @vikrantg4 What do you mean?
Can't you see in the diagram that 2 chords are intersecting each other ?
http://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/euclid_eWorkshop/eew_ps6.pdf this might help some
@vikrantg4 I see that, obviously. I thought that what amistre64 was saying is that there is an entire definition of the property (if it is so.) Math, especially geometry, is not my strong part so please be respectful of that.
im not familiar with the geometry either, its been to many years since I had to go thru it. this might be useful as well: http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/Segments-of-Chords-Secants-Tangents.topicArticleId-18851,articleId-18828.html
Oh, I just found the thing on crossed chords in the first link you sent me. I couldn't find it in my lessons.
the information given, we can calculate the missing measures
"A" appears to be the center of the circle ...
yes
and AF is 35, which is already given. But how would we find the length of DE?
bg = 90 ba = 45; af = 35; fg = 45-35 =10 bf = 45+35 = 80 df = ef de = df+ef this is what i consider
80*10 = df*fe 800 = 2x x = 400 df=400, fe = 400 de = 400 ... maybe
DE can't equal 400, I have a choice of 4 different answers and 400 isn't one of them
yeah, i just reviewed them :)
I completely understand the first part now. That part isn't that difficult it seems. But to find DE.... hmmm let me go back and see what it says in my lessons. I doubt anything ill be there.
*will
90 |--------------| B.....a.....F...........G | 35| |-45|----45------| |45+35 | 45-35 | 80 10 looks right to me from there
Yeah to me too.
ugh... I hate geometry.
