write the standard equation: 2x^2+2y^2+4x-28y+86=0

step by step-ish please :)

Here you need to isolate y on one side of the equation. Start by bringing all values of y over to one side of the equation. When you do, it will look like this: \[2y ^{2}-28y = -2x ^{2}-4x-86\]

Also, I would divide everything by 2 to make it easier because all the numbers are even. After you do that, you can factor out a y on the left side, it will look like this: \[y(y-14) = -x ^{2}-2x-43\]

At this point, divide by y - 14 on both sides to isolate y.

And that's as close as you can get.

Often in advanced math you won't be able to isolate a variable completely unless you have a system of equations, which you don't.

this is algebra 2... lol its asking me to write the standard equation and classify the conic section... i have the final equation and circle...
