how do you classify by degree and number of terms?
Are we talking about polynomials?
yeah
Ok, terms means how many things make up the statement. So x^2 + x + 2 = a 3 term polynomial because I have 3 terms. 3 statements together that make up the polynomial. If I talk about order, we are referring to the highest exponent value. So for example in x^5 + x^2 -40, 5 is the largest exponent so the polynomial has an order of 5. (The first polynomial in my examples has order of 2 and the second one has 3 terms)
what bout degrees
oops degrees= order. i called it order on accident, my bad.
i just looked it up to make sure... wikipedia has rationally explained my word change "The word degree has been favored for some decades in standard textbooks - but in some older books, the word order may be used instead."
so what is quartic, quantic, cubic, and quadratic, those are names for degrees
i think 5 is quartic
hmm i believe quartic is 4. (quarter) cubic is 3 and quadratic I don't believe quantic and quadratic refer to anything in particular but maybe someone else can help you out with that
so what is 5
is 5 quantic then
I'm not sure, I wanted to make sure via google and they don't give me anything ueful when I type in quantic and degrees
