My question is about paraphrasing: When paraphrasing an entire paragraph all from the same author do I need to cite at the end of each sentence or just once at the end of the paragraph? The APA book does not give details at all on paraphrasing. I thank you in advance for your response.

Pretty sure its at the end of the paragraph err essay you just have to make sure that if you are using information that is not originally yours you NEED to cite the proper source the right way... honestly im not sure if this is what your asking lol but hope it helps :D

I am clear on how to cite, however, today our professor told me that when paraphrasing even if is all from one author I would have to cite each sentence. This is my fourth year in nursing school and this is the first time I hear that. I was always citing a paraphrase just once at the end if all the ideas belonged to the same author, no matter how long the paragraph was.

It's ok to cite an entire paragraph as long as the entire paragraph only covers one topic.

seems like it should be fine, but better safe than sorry i guess. like peeps said it should be fine if its just one topic.

Peeps, so let me see if I understand what you are telling me: is not just the same author but also only one idea? Perhaps the paragraph covers several concepts all from the same author I would cite several times?

hope i could help, probably didnt lol sorry. best wishes!

Your did hayley42 thanks!!!!

A paragraph should only cover one topic. I would not cover several concepts in one paragraph unless it's just to list them. If you are discussing them, each concept would need a new paragraph. I only wrote it that way because a lot of students don't realize this. I didn't mean to confuse you.

Thank you very much! I understand now
