Anyone like mathematical word problems?
Is the x+2 in inches? Also, I'm a little confused about why the wood only has one dimension, unless they are asking for the total length of wood.
The question isn't too clear...I think they want you to add the lengths (x + 2 + 2x - 1 = 3x + 1) but that isn't a very useful number...especially because you haven't solved for x.
Also good point about inches vs feet @andrew314
An carpenter has a piece of lumber which is X+2 in yards and another piece which is 2x-1 feet in length. Represent in simplest from the total number of inches of lumber that he has.
A yard is 36 inches and a foot is 12...therefore if its the total length they're looking for here, it would be 36(x + 2) + 12(2x +1). Just have to simplify it.
I'm going to assume it's a weird question, and just add the lengths... So, there are 36 inches in a yard, which makes the first equation: 36(x+2) = 36x+72 And there are 12 inches in a foot, which makes the second equation: 12(2x-1) = 24x-12
And yes, as matt says, you add. Though, I think you switched signs on one of your numbers, matt101
that's it
yup, just add 36x+72 + 24x-12 like we did in the last problem
ok thanks Andrew merry Christmas
you too
Yup very true andrew...that's what happens when you're tired and typing fast and slightly overqualified to answer this sort of thing lol...but happy tp help :)
thanks matt and andrew
60x+60 right?
yeah that's right. Sorry for the delay in response.
nvm :)
Haha alright
