Science Fair Questions? My topic is on 'What beverages stain teeth the most?' How can I expand the beginning?
A beautiful bright smile, with white teeth seems to beam a perfectly warm, happy, intelligent aura; as opposed to discolored or stained teeth looking stingy and having an overall terrible impression. You may wonder what causes these self-deprecating stains. One type of teeth staining is called extrinsic staining. Extrinsic staining is when the outer layer of the tooth, also known as the enamel, is stained (Tooth Staining). It is caused when highly pigmented foods linger on the tooth for a lengthy period of time and ultimately find their way into the superficial layers of the enamel. Coffee, black tea, cola or other drinks or foods can cause the staining of teeth (Foods and Drinks that Stain your Teeth). These beverages stick to the surface of your enamel and form another surface called pellicle film. You can keep this pellicle layer really thin where the staining is barely noticeable. Your toothbrush can extricate some of the staining when the pellicle layer is thin. However, the pellicle layer can build up on your teeth for several years. Eventually, those materials sink deeper and become part of your enamel (Why do teeth get Stained?). This is when the stains are noticeable and really hard to get rid of no matter how hard you brush.
Coffee and tea. stain depends on how long and how much u have
In addition grapes, blueberries etc. can also stain teeth, in the same way that they stain clothes (ie. if you got blueberry juice on a white cotton shirt it will stain) because these foods or beverages contain “chromogenic” agents.
