The contrapositive of the statement “If the angles are alternate interior angles, then the angles are congruent” is “If the angles are not congruent, then the angles are not alternate interior angles” <--- please help these statments are really confusing to me

If it rains, I do not go outside ...(1) <=> if I go outside, it does not rain ....(2) AND if it does not rain, I can do what I want, since I didn't promise anything. So the contrapositive is basically that the result was not there, the initial condition was not satisfied. This means that statements (1) and (2) are equivalent. For geometric and other proofs, we are free to prove either version, whichever is easier, hence your example.

Exactly, the latter is the contrapositive of the former.
