I can infer that the figure is the double helix, but where does it show it unzipping for replication, etc.?

The unwinding occurs at the replication fork, produced by DNA helicase which is powered by ATP hydrolysis. It is said to be complementary because of the base pairs.

a pyrimidine C & T always bonds chemically with a specific purine G or A. It's chemical H bonding so that the "rungs" of the DNA ladder are the same size - 3 "loops" long
