What does it mean when scientists say that living organisms share a universal genetic code?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is really no complete answer to this question, when they say it shares a universal genetic code it means all organism on earth share a common ancestry in which a progenitor cell contains genetic code that has been passed down to all current living organisms. All organism can have their genetic material traced back to this progenitor cell. This progenitor is known as last universal common ancestor or LUCA. here is a cladogram that links all major species of organisms on earth to a single ancestor http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/11/Tree_of_life_SVG.svg
