how must i http://www.kutasoftware.com/FreeWorksheets/GeoWorksheets/3-Parallel%20Lines%20and%20Transversals.pdf question number 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please don't leave

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please tell me you know how to do this :"{

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Two sum of the two angles must be 180 degrees, agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but aren't they complementary?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Further, because they are equal, they must both be 90 degrees, yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? but what about the 96?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is it x + 96?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

right, it must be that x + 96 = 90

OpenStudy (jamesj):

hence, what is x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6

OpenStudy (jamesj):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do you solve it? aren't they complementary angles?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Call then both A. We know that A + A = 180 i.e, 2A = 180 hence A = 90 That's the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would they write x + 96? no purpose?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

to test your resolve in solving this. the fact that it confused you means that there's some work to be done here to make you apply the basic principles are work.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

but also you can see it's part of a series of question where you find angles and then have to solve a simple algebraic equation. this is just another variation on that theme.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

ok, content?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no :"{ I answered Number 26 correctly by adding 20 and 24, which is 44x. i also added -1 and 5 to get 4 then i got 44x + 4 = 180 44x = 176 x = 4 then i plugged it into 20x + 5 and got 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I didn't know why i couldn't do it for number 25

OpenStudy (jamesj):

For number 25, (x + 96) + (x + 96) = 180 agreed, so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Now solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x + 192 = 180 subtract 192 2x = -12 divide by 2 x = -6

OpenStudy (jamesj):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH!!!!! I'M A flutterING IDIOT!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks I understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need way more practice on this
