OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is transpiration necessary in plants?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

transpiration in plants serves the same function as in animals: cooling the leaves. all enzymes lose their function and integrity under the influence of heat. therefore, the leaves need to be cooled so that they can live.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It helps in cooling the plants. It also acts as a suction pull for minerals to be bought up to the upper parts of the plant from the roots. It also leads to loss of water, which is why transpiration is sometimes referred to as 'necessary evil'.

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Yes, it is that mixture, used for water transport in the xylem and for cooling.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

transpiration is done by plants to lower the increased temperature of leaves due to metabolic activities like respiration. Enzymes require a optimum temperature and they cant catalyze reaction in high temperature so by transpiration , plants reduce the temperature. along with this transpiration pull is also created by the transpiration i.e. upward motion of water through xylem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Transpiration pull bring water from the roots to the leaves. Think of cohesion and adhesion at work with osmotic root pressure. How else could water get to the tops of high trees without this process?
