Which of the following shows the square completed in the this equation? x2 + 3x - 5 = 0 A. (x + 9)2 = 14 B. (x - 3)2 = 8 C. (x + 1.5)2 = 7.25

OpenStudy (turingtest):

do you know that completing the square on\[ax^2+bx+c=0\]means first adding\[(\frac{b}{2a})^2\]to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (turingtest):

do you know the quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Basically I'm asking if you can recognize what a, b, c are in your particular polynomial.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welll yes but still confused

OpenStudy (earthcitizen):

can u add half the square root of the co-efficient of b to both sides?

OpenStudy (earthcitizen):

rather a not b

OpenStudy (turingtest):

a is the number next to the x^2 term b is the number next to the x term c is the number that is all alone that is how you can recognize which is which for your problem.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I will tell you one of them a=1 because there is no number next to x^2, so that means its coefficient is 1. So what are tho other numbers: b and c ?
